Second International Conference on
Alcohol and HIV: Insights from Interventions

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), The Institute for Community Research (ICR), Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) invite researchers, policy makers, and practitioners to submit abstract(s) for presentation at the Second International Conference on ‘Alcohol and HIV: Insights from Interventions’ in New Delhi, India. This conference explores interventions in response to alcohol abuse, sexuality, gender, and HIV prevention in India and other countries in the South Asian region and will discuss implications for research, policy and practice.
The abstract should not exceed the word limit of 1000 words.
The abstract outline should include:
- Problem
- Data sources
- Methods
- Results
- Implications for further research, interventions and/ or policy
Themes/Focal Areas
The conference will discuss experiences from Alcohol and HIV interventions under three broad themes:
- Intervention Science I: pilot or full scale studies
- Intervention Science II: scaling up examples
- Developing Interventions
- Others
It is expected that presentation in each of the themes will include data — either qualitative, quantitative or both — that may come from formative research or process evaluation/fidelity research or outcome evaluation. Please indicate which theme best represents your research.
Submission Deadline: 31 July 2010
- Abstract should include descriptions of interventions and the results of intervention studies related to alcohol, sexuality, gender, and HIV.
- General secondary research studies and results will not be accepted unless they are reviews of policies related to alcohol and gender, or reviews of efficacious interventions based on secondary sources.
- Include implications of your study for policy, practice, treatment and prevention.
- You will be able to copy and paste your abstract from another document onto the given space in the website for abstract submission.
- One applicant can submit a maximum of two abstracts. Applicants should indicate if they or other authors on the abstract will present at the conference.
- A review committee will make the determination as to which abstracts are accepted, and for presentation sessions or posters or both
